چکیده

To realize versatile real-time man-machine interactions based on understanding human intention and activities, we develop an active wearable vision sensor. The sensor consists of the detector of person’s viewing lines and two active cameras. First, we establish a method for calibrating the sensor so that it can detect person’s blink points accurately even in a real situation such that the depth of blink points changes. We formulate errors of the viewingline detector in terms of the depth in blink points from the person and employ the stereo algorithm to correct the errors. Secondly, we propose a method, the binocular independent fixation control, for incrementally estimating the motion trajectory of the person wearing the sensor. In this method, while the person moves we control the two active cameras independently so that each fixates its optical axis to its own fixation point.

Detecting a Gazing Region by Visual Direction and Stereo Cameras

We develop a wearable vision system that consists of a user’s visual direction sensor and stereo cameras. First, we establish a method for calibrating the system so that it can detect user’s blink points even in a real situation such that the depth of blink points changes. Next, we propose a method for detecting a gazing region of a user in terms of the planar convex polygon. In our method, the...

Active Vision for Wearables

In this paper we report on our ongoing research on wearable active vision, where we have iteratively prototyped a Wearable Visual Robot — a body mounted robot for which the main sensor is a camera. Two main areas have been studied: robot design and visual algorithms. In the design stage, we have analysed sensor placement through the computation of the field of view and body motion using a 3D mo...

GPS Jamming Detection in UAV Navigation Using Visual Odometry and HOD Trajectory Descriptor

Auto-navigating of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) in the outdoor environment is performed by using the Global positioning system (GPS) receiver. The power of the GPS signal on the earth surface is very low. This can affect the performance of GPS receivers in the environments contaminated with the other source of radio frequency interference (RFI). GPS jamming and spoofing are the most serious a...

Towards wearable active vision platforms

This paper describes the design and construction of a wearable active vision platform which is able to achieve substantial decoupling of the camera motion from the wearer’s motion. Design issues in sensor placement, robot kinematics and their relation to wearability are discussed and the prototype platform’s performance is evaluated in a number of important visual tasks. The paper also discusse...

A wearable system that learns a kinematic model and finds structure in everyday manipulation by using absolute orientation sensors and a camera

This thesis presents Duo, the first wearable system to autonomously learn a kinematic model of the wearer via body-mounted absolute orientation sensors and a head-mounted camera. With Duo, we demonstrate the significant benefits of endowing a wearable system with the ability to sense the kinematic configuration of the wearer’s body. We also show that a kinematic model can be autonomously estima...
